My real surname is Evans.I have never changed my name, but I use the professional name ‘Casanove’ as there was already a Susan Evans on Equity, the actors’ union, when I joined.Casanove is an anagram of ‘Evans a Co’ (‘a’ being the Welsh word for ‘and’) although strangely enough, I wasn't conscious of the anagram when I chose the name!
I gained two music degrees before training as an actor: a BMus (Second Class Honours, First Division, Cardiff) and an MA in Musicology (London).I play piano, organ, recorder and flute.
I also trained as a singer with Janet Price (The Royal Academy of Music) and I now sing regularly as a member of The BBC National Chorus of Wales
An ancestor of mine was Howell T. Evanswho became well-known in Wales in the 1930s and 40s as a writer of eighteen books and later, several radio scripts. He was also a broadcaster on the then BBC Home Service. He is the subject of the biography, Portrait of a Pioneer by Lyn Evans published in 1982 by Christopher Davies Ltd.
